Summer Bridge Program

Build your confidence and community before Fall Quarter even starts with the Stanford Summer Bridge Program

We are excited to support new first-year and transfer undergraduate students in their transition to Stanford through a summer bridge experience designed to foster academic preparation, build community, and equip students with the tools and confidence they need to succeed and feel a sense of belonging as they begin their Stanford education.

At the heart of this program is Stanford’s continued commitment to addressing the needs of all incoming students so they may be as well positioned as possible to succeed in Stanford’s first-year courses and other academic opportunities and also to pursue whatever major they desire.  The program is designed to support the needs of students who may be the first in their families to attend college, or who have attended high schools with limited course offerings, or who simply feel that further preparation will increase their confidence in the Fall quarter and beyond.

Students may apply for either an in-person or online bridge program experience:

  • In-person experience: A six-week on-campus program featuring five weeks where the focus is primarily on academics,  followed by a final sixth week where students will receive an intensive introduction to a wide array of Stanford community and academic resources. After the program, students will stay on campus for New Student Orientation and the start of the Fall Quarter.
  • Online experience: A remote option where students can choose between two five-week online sessions, allowing them to participate from anywhere. Many online session participants will also have the opportunity to come to campus to join the in-person sixth-week programming.

The Bridge program also offers enhanced advising support for all participating students to ensure that they have clear guidance in selecting appropriate courses as they build their first-year schedule.  In addition, the cohort communities forged by the summer bridge program will continue to be supported during the academic year.

More details about Stanford’s summer bridge program options and the application process for 2025 will be shared on this page by April 2025.
